BreedPlus | Breeding & Youngstock Daily Formula

For the ones still being built.

No horse asks more of its diet than a mare growing next year's foal — except perhaps the foal, once it arrives and gets on with the serious business of growing. BreedPlus is the daily formula for the breeding side of the yard: minerals delivered as Hi Form's signature tissue salts, vitamins, a full range of amino acids and naturally occurring omega 3, 6 and 9, with BioEquus digestive support built in. One formula, fed by bodyweight, from broodmare to yearling — with the breeding stallion covered too.

What is BreedPlus?

Most of the growing happens before anyone's watching

A horse does the vast majority of its skeletal growing before it ever sees a saddle — much of it before it's even born. All of that frame is built from nutrients: first drawn through the mare, then from the youngster's own ration. Forage does the heavy lifting, as it should — and BreedPlus supplies the minerals, vitamins and amino acids a growing frame draws on every day, so the raw materials are there when the building work happens.

One tub, every stage

The breeding calendar is a relay: early pregnancy, the heavy late months when the foal does most of its growing, then lactation — when a mare pours minerals into milk with impressive single-mindedness — then a weanling eating for itself, then a yearling growing like a weed. BreedPlus is designed to carry the whole relay: the same formula throughout, with the daily rate adjusted to bodyweight and stage. The breeding stallion is covered too — a covering season is hard work in its own way, and his daily nutrition deserves the same attention. No switching products mid-season, no gaps between stages.

A daily foundation, not a bolt-on

BreedPlus is one of the three daily all-rounders in the Hi Form range: Oxydane for horses in work, LeisureVit for the lighter life, BreedPlus for breeding and growing horses. Like its two stablemates, it has BioEquus — our pre-, pro- and postbiotic blend — built straight into the formula, supporting a healthy digestive system and normal nutrient absorption. So a horse on BreedPlus has the daily essentials and gut support covered in a single scoop, rather than a tower of separate tubs.

The whole formula, working as one

Everything in the tub is there to work with everything else — calcium and phosphorus in balance, magnesium, zinc, copper and organic selenium, vitamins A, D3 and E alongside the B group, lysine, methionine and a full range of amino acids, milk thistle extract, kelp and a live yeast digestibility enhancer. The protein comes from EquiSoy, our oral-grade full-fat soy flour — human quality, and nothing like the feed-grade soybean meal found in many feeds. Every ingredient is human grade and TGA-listed, with no fillers, made to HACCP-certified, Feedsafe-accredited standards. We've been formulating this way since 1990; the label hides nothing.

What it does

Tap any benefit for the detail.

Bone, muscle and connective tissue are built from nutrients — minerals, amino acids like lysine and methionine, and the vitamins that help the body put them to use. BreedPlus supplies them daily, so a growing horse's ration has what the building work asks of it.

Growing bone doesn't just need calcium and phosphorus — it needs them in sensible proportion to each other, which is exactly how BreedPlus supplies them, with vitamin D3 alongside to support normal calcium absorption. It's the quiet, unglamorous heart of a breeding formula, and it has never been an afterthought here.

A mare in foal, and then a mare feeding one, has some of the highest nutritional demands of any horse on the yard. BreedPlus supports her normal condition through pregnancy and lactation by supplying the minerals, vitamins and protein those months draw on most heavily.

Every scoop carries BioEquus, our pre-, pro- and postbiotic blend, plus a live yeast registered as a digestibility enhancer — supporting a healthy digestive system and helping a horse get the good out of its ration. It's the same thinking as Oxydane and LeisureVit: the daily foundation should look after the gut that has to absorb it.

Rather than relying on standard mineral forms alone, Hi Form delivers finely prepared micro-doses of the body's 12 essential minerals — chosen for easy uptake, and part of every formula we've made since the beginning.

One tub covers the mare through every stage, the foal at foot, the weanling, the yearling and the stallion in his covering season — each at their own rate. Simpler feed room, consistent nutrition, no juggling three different regimes.

Balancer bag or supplement tub? An honest comparison

Most breeding yards reach for a stud balancer — a pelleted feed doing two jobs at once: a little feed, plus the vitamins and minerals. BreedPlus takes the other route: it does only the second job, concentrated into a few spoonfuls, and leaves the feeding to your forage and your judgement. Neither is wrong — but they read very differently on the label, so compare honestly:

What it is Concentrated daily supplement Pelleted balancer feed

What's Inside?

Key bio-available ingredients

Mineral tissue saltsHi Form's signature: finely prepared micro-doses of the body's 12 essential minerals, chosen for easy uptake. In the range since 1990.
EquiSoy (de-bittered full-fat soy flour)The protein in BreedPlus, and a point of pride: oral-grade, human-quality soy flour — the kind used in health foods — bringing palatable protein and naturally occurring omega 3, 6 and 9. Emphatically not the feed-grade soybean meal by-product found in many feeds, and absolutely not a filler.
BioEquusHi Form's own pre-, pro- and postbiotic blend, built into the formula — supporting a healthy digestive system and normal nutrient absorption. It's inside all three of our daily all-rounders, because a daily formula should look after the gut that absorbs it.
Calcium & phosphorusThe two big bone minerals, supplied in balance with magnesium alongside — the quiet foundation every breeding formula should be built on.
Zinc, copper & organic selenium Zinc, copper & organic seleniumTrace elements a growing horse draws on daily, at meaningful levels printed on the analysis — with selenium in its organic form (L-selenomethionine).
Vitamins A, D3 & E Vitamins A, D3 & EThe fat-soluble trio, at label-declared levels — with vitamin D3 supporting normal calcium absorption, which is rather the point in a breeding formula.
B vitamins & folic acid B vitamins & folic acidThe metabolic support set — B1, B6, niacin, pantothenic acid and folic acid, with brewer's yeast contributing its own B vitamins naturally.
Milk thistle extract 10:1A concentrated botanical with a very long history of traditional use — one part of a whole formula, not a solo act.

Small scoop, serious formula

Mix well into slightly damp feed.

Late Pregnancy & Lactating 25-30g per day 2 level scoops
MAINTENANCE, EARLY PREGNANCY, Weanlings & yearlings 10-20g per day 1 level scoop

Rates shift a little across the breeding calendar — early pregnancy asks less than lactation, and a weanling isn't a yearling. If you'd like the rate fine-tuned to your mare or youngster (and the rest of the ration checked around your forage while we're at it), our free nutrition advice team does exactly that, for nothing.

When does my horse need BreedPlus in their bucket?

The moments it was made for...

  • A mare is in foal, and eating for the future
  • Lactation — the hardest nutritional work a horse ever does
  • Foals and weanlings building bone and frame
  • Yearlings and youngsters in their growing seasons
  • Stallions through the covering season
A scoop being added to a feed bucket

What it actually costs

From 64p a day for a 500kg horse — a fraction of the price of a yard-run coffee, for the horse doing the most growing of its life.

A 300kg pony at 12.5g a day comes in between about 31p and 40p a day, depending on tub size.

Could we make it cheaper? Easily — we'd just have to put less in. A formula for growing horses is the very last place we'd do that. If you're feeding several head, the 5kg and 10kg tubs are where the sums get friendly — and the free nutrition advice team will happily tell you which rate each horse actually needs, even when the answer costs you less.
