Topline | Muscle & Topline Support
Muscle is made by correct work. Topline supplies the raw materials.
No tub on any shelf can put a topline on a horse — that comes from correct, consistent work, stride by stride. What nutrition decides is whether the body has the raw materials to answer when the work asks. Topline supplies them: added amino acids on a base of oral-grade EquiSoy protein, with B vitamins, live yeast, a traditional botanical and mineral tissue salts — one concentrated formula, one small daily serve.
✓ Supports muscle condition and topline in horses in work
✓ Amino acid building blocks on a full-fat EquiSoy base

What is TopLine?
Muscle is made by correct work. Topline supplies the raw materials.
The honest bit first: muscle is made by work
Plenty of products in this category are sold as if the scoop does the schooling. We won't do that, because it isn't true. A topline develops in response to correct, consistent work — transitions, hillwork, poles, long and low — repeated over weeks. So here's the deal Topline actually offers: you bring the work, it brings the raw materials, and the horse does the rest.
Nutrition's job: the raw materials
Muscle tissue is protein, and protein is put together from amino acids — think of them as the bricks. A diet can look 'high protein' on paper and still come up short, because protein-building stalls the moment the scarcest amino acid runs out, however much of the others is on hand. Quality and spread beat crude percentages. Topline is built on EquiSoy — our oral-grade (human-quality), full-fat, debittered soy flour, a palatable plant protein with a naturally broad amino-acid spread — and adds pure L-arginine and L-tyrosine at levels printed on the label: just shy of 80,000mg of each per kilo. Roughly a sixth of every kilo is added amino acid before the base even starts.
One formula, working as one
As ever with Hi Form, the formula works as a whole rather than leaning on one star ingredient. Around the protein core sit B-group vitamins (B3, B5 and B6 at declared levels) plus brewer's yeast with its own natural Bs; Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a live yeast in the EU additive category 'digestibility enhancers', there to help a horse make more of the ration he already eats; Siberian ginseng, a botanical with centuries of traditional use, as a concentrated 10:1 extract; and our signature mineral tissue salts — finely prepared micro-doses of essential minerals, in the range since 1990. What you won't find: whey, fish or animal proteins of any kind, and no fillers — horses are herbivores, and every Hi Form formula respects that. Every ingredient is human grade and TGA-listed, made in our HACCP-certified, Feedsafe-accredited facility in Australia.
Who it's for
Horses in work being asked to develop and carry themselves: the youngster starting correct schooling, the horse coming back into work after a holiday or a winter turned away, the dressage horse working up the levels, show and sales preparation, and the good doer whose owner wants to support condition over the back without adding buckets of hard feed. Not sure whether Topline or plain EquiSoy is the right fit? Our free nutrition advice team will tell you honestly.
What it does
Tap any benefit for the detail.
Muscle is protein; protein is amino acids. Topline supplies added L-arginine and L-tyrosine at levels printed on the label, on top of the naturally broad amino-acid spread of its EquiSoy base — so a horse in work has the building blocks on hand the day the work asks for them. That's how it supports muscle condition and topline.
The base of the formula is EquiSoy: full-fat, debittered soy flour of oral (human) grade — the kind used in health foods, not the soybean meal by-product found in most feeds. Palatable, concentrated plant protein, and absolutely not a filler.
Supporting condition usually means adding volume — another scoop, another feed. Topline works the other way: one 20g serve for a 500kg horse, four level spoons, gone in a mouthful of damp feed. Welcome news for good doers, small appetites and anyone already juggling a full feed room.
Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a live yeast in the EU additive category 'digestibility enhancers' — its job is exactly what the name says. Alongside it sit B3, B5 and B6 at declared levels, with brewer's yeast bringing its own natural B vitamins to the party.
Much of the muscle-supplement category borrows from human bodybuilding — whey first. Horses are strict herbivores, so Topline is built entirely from plant, vitamin and mineral nutrition. It's the same rule across the whole Hi Form range, held since 1990.
Feed it as a concentrated programme alongside a schooling plan — allow at least six weeks — or keep it in the ration long term for horses in consistent work. It pairs naturally with ProflamAid Plus: Topline for the engine, ProflamAid Plus for the moving parts.
Comparing muscle supplements? Read the labels together
Two tubs can both say 'topline' on the front and be built on completely different thinking — one on calories, one on raw materials. Our advice is the same as ever: turn them around. Three things to compare — what the protein actually is, what's declared per kilo, and what a day costs at the recommended rate.

Small scoop, serious formula
Mix well into slightly damp feed. Between the EquiSoy base and the brewer's yeast, fussy eaters rarely argue.
Give it a fair run: at least six weeks of consistent daily feeding alongside regular, correct work. Many customers then drop to a lower maintenance serve for the long term — ask us where your horse should sit.
When does my horse need Topline in their feed bucket?
The moments it was made for...
- The schooling programme is working on strength and carriage
- Coming back into work after time off, with condition to rebuild the right way
- A young horse is filling out its frame
- A senior is working lightly and you'd like the raw materials on hand
- You're feeding EquiSoy and want the targeted muscle-support layer with it
What it actually costs
From 78p a day. A 300kg pony at 10g gets 500 days — well over a year — from a single 5kg tub.
A 500kg horse in work at 20g is £1.56 a day from the 5kg tub — around £47 a month, the price of one riding lesson, for the raw-materials side of the topline you're schooling for. The 1kg tub works out at £1.94 a day. Sizes run 1kg, 2kg, 5kg and 10kg.
Could we make it cheaper? Easily — swap the oral-grade EquiSoy for feed-grade meal and pad it out. Then it wouldn't be Topline. If budget is the question, ask our free nutrition advice team what your horse actually needs — sometimes the honest answer is plain EquiSoy, and we'll say so.

Honestly? No — and nothing in a tub can. Muscle develops in response to correct, consistent work; what Topline does is make sure the raw materials — amino acids, quality protein, B vitamins — are there when the work asks. You bring the schooling, we bring the building blocks.
At least six weeks of consistent daily feeding alongside regular, correct work before you judge. Let your instructor's eye be the umpire, and book the saddler for a check along the way — good practice for any horse coming into stronger work.
EquiSoy is our straightforward, economical plant protein for overall condition. Topline is the concentrated, targeted formula built ON an EquiSoy base, with added amino acids, B vitamins, live yeast and mineral tissue salts for muscle condition and topline in work. Some horses do best with both — our free nutrition advice team will tell you honestly which yours needs, even if the answer is just EquiSoy.
They're designed as teammates: Topline supports the engine — muscle condition and topline — while ProflamAid Plus looks after the moving parts, supporting healthy joints and suppleness. Plenty of horses in proper work get both.
Vet first, always. An unexpected change in condition or muscle is a veterinary conversation before it's a supplement one, and Topline is a complementary feed for healthy horses in work — not a medicine. Once your vet is happy, our free nutrition advice team will help it fit alongside whatever they've advised.
